About Skardu Destination

Skardu is the capital District of Gilgit-Baltistan in the region of Pakistan. The Skardu District is an opening door to the eight-thousanders (mountains having height more than 8000 meters). The city is located on the Indus river.

Skardu city is highly enriched with the natural beauty that captivates tourists from all over the world. It has glaciers, lakes, mountains, plateau, forts, and much more. Every year, this city is visited by thousands of tourists. It has a sheer role in the tourism development of Pakistan.
The climate of Skardu is moderate in Summers whereas the Winters of Skardu are extremely cold where temperature can drop up to -10 °C. This district has some of the largest glaciers in the World, including Chogo Lunga Glacier, Baltoro Glacier, and the Biafo Glacier.

The city includes 4 eight-thousander mountains out of 14 and it makes the city a main attraction. The trekkers, mountaineers, and the tourists are fond of this place.
The Deosai National Park is the second highest plains in the world at an elevation of 4,114 meters above the sea level. The Deosai Plains are the habitat for snow leopards, Tibetan blue bears, wild horses, and ibex.
Skardu has some ancient forts that were built by the rulers of Baltistan. There are two forts in Skardu District that include Skardu Fort, and Shigar Fort. Skardu Fort is also known as Kharphocho Fort, and it gives a panoramic view of Skardu Town, Indus River, and the Skardu Valley.
Shigar Fort is located on the way to the 2nd largest mountain in the world, K2. It is also known as Fong-Khar which means “Palace on the Rock”. Shigar and Skardu Fort are a big attraction for the tourists while visiting the Skardu District.

The enchanting and captivating Kachura Lakes and Satpara Lake are also in Skardu. Kachura Lakes include two lakes i.e. Upper Kachura Lake and the Lower Kachura Lake (better known as Shangrila Lake). Both the lakes are very beautiful and full of natural beauty.
Satpara Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Pakistan. People enjoy trout fishing and boating at the Satpara lake and get amused by the beauty of this lake.
