The region of Azad Kashmir, Pakistan is blessed with some alluring places that astonishes the tourists. One of those places is Chitta Katha Lake. Chitta Katha Lake is located in the Shounter Valley of Azad Kashmir. It is at the elevation of 13,500 feet and is the highest lake in Azad Kashmir.
The Chitta Katha Lake is surrounded by glaciers that give a milky white reflection to the lake’s water. Chita Katha is a local name that comprises 2 words. “Chitta” means white and “Katha” means stream.
The path that leads to your destination is neither easy nor much difficult. Chitta Katha Lake is in the north-east of Muzaffarabad. It is about 155 kilometers away from Muzaffarabad in the town of Kel. From Kel, there’s a 4-hour difficult jeep drive that will take you to the base camp of Chitta Katha Lake i.e. Domel; A village in Kashmir.
After reaching the base camp, a beautiful riverside track is waiting for you. You will have to test your trekking skills here as you will require a lot of patience because the trek takes 6 to 8 hours to make you see your destination.
After reaching the lake, all the energy you lost while trekking will get back by watching the beautiful and mesmerizing Chitta Katha Lake. Tourists here enjoy camping under the crystal clear sky and billions of stars.
Once you get free from the lake, get the opportunity to visit Shounter Waterfall. On the way, you will come across a green water lake having the shape of Chamach (Spoon). Due to its shape, it is known as Chamach Lake. The people of the valley are very friendly. You can avail a chance to offer prayer in the beautiful wooden mosques.
